Here's what I want for my birthday tomorrow. Okay, so it's not my birthday yet, but let's all pretend. Okay? Good.
I want:
Sara to update her blog with new pictures and funny anecdotes about the boys
Laura to upater her blog with new pictures and an anecdote about her boy
Gina and Katie to give it up and GET A BLOG and update with pictures and anecdotes
Liz to update her blog with pictures and funny anecdotes (special request for art pictures)
Rachel to keep up the good work (Kudos to Rachel)
Andrea to update her blog with new pictures of the ring and her boy
Wendy to update withe new pictures and funny anecdotes about her boy and girls
Bronwyn to update with new pictures and funny anecdotes about her boy (You possibly are exempt because you are moving in a very short time, or I can just make another wish)
Bronwyn to not move to far, far away land. That's better!
Everyone else to update with new pictures and funny anecdotes.
I need something interesting to read when I am awake feeding a baby at 3am. I have resorted to reading the stimulus bill. I'm serious folks. It's a little dull on the ranch in the middle of the night.
Side note: Do you know that the stimulus bill actually states that no money can be given to Illinois as long as Rod Blagojevich is still in office? Yep, kind of fun. Boo on Rod!! Bad news bears.

I'm so mad I could spit
Okay, not really because I HATE spitting. I can't even remember the last time I felt like spitting. Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember running once and maybe I thought about spitting for some reason. You can see that it has been a long time because I think it has been a decade since I ran anywhere. So, I must really be mad, right? Right.
Who else is going to boycott M&M's because they are now sexualizing (word?) M&M's? Has anyone seen the commercials that I'm talking about? Seriously? Is the economy dramatically effecting the sale of our tasty little chocolate nuggets to the point that they need to go the way of Trashy/slutty Arby's? Hmm? Anyone.
I've written my letter. Well, actually it was an email, but still. Hey, do you think that when you email your complaints about trashy advertising that they take you as seriously as when you actually send them a letter? Rachel, any feedback on this, O Queen of All Letter Writers?
Well, just needed to share my concern. I am only theoretically boycotting M&M's, since in practice I am a weak individual and cannot resist the tempting Peanut Butter M&M's. Is anyone stronger than I am?

Who has a cute new blog?
Yep, that's me. I finally figured out how to change my blog background. I feel legit now. Makes me wanna sing and dance with some hammer pants.
Hope everyone is having a great day. I'm trying to convince myself to go to the gym and not crawl back in bed.
Nathan has discovered his 'Kick and Play' bouncy seat. As long as he kicks his legs and moves then the seat plays music and lights up. He is having a blast and so am I as it keeps him quite entertained. Too bad I didn't have one of those for the puppies. Sit them down and hypnotize them for a few hours. Do they hypnotize dogs? Ya know, maybe they could and it could get them to behave better. I think I'm going to get hypnotized so I stop eating so much ice cream and drinking so much Pepsi. Anyone have a hypontizer in their roladex? Just curious.

Talents
What I wish I could do well:
1) Organization. A place for everything and everything in it's place.
2) Spatial awareness. I wish I could imagine furniture in a new place without having to move it first. Also wish that I could do tangram puzzles without crying.
3) Be nice. I wish I was a naturally kind person. Instead I am unfortunately judgemental. I have realized that I am most judgemental of qualities that are similar to my weaknesses. It's easier to pick on someone else than to think about my short comings.
4) Juggle. Not nearly as important as being nice, but it would be great.
5) Play the harmonica. Then for sure Harry Connick Jr. would love me. Right?
6) Remember things. Anything, really. I would just love to be able to remember that I told you some story yesterday and not go through the trouble of re-telling the same thing to my own embarassment. I of course don't get embarassed because I don't remember telling you-obviously. But, since I know this is a weakness, please forgive Grandma Johnson for the same stories.
7)Cook. Well, I think I actually cook well, so I guess I should wish to enjoy cooking more.
Just a few of things off my wish list.
Today we went to church and had a lovely if not sleepy time. I had to get up for a once a month 7:30am meeting. At said meeting, I was told that I would now be needed at a different meeting every Sunday at the same time. I should have skipped this morning's meeting and I never would have known. Maybe.
Nathan was cute and received lots of attention as you would expect.
Someone brought oodles of doughnuts to church to pass out. They were delicious. You know how some churches do a little social hour after church with treats? Why don't we do that? I don't want to be on the treat committee, but boy would I love more treats.
Nathan is at another one of these weird stages when he is switching up his daytime schedule to accomodate his nighttime sleepytime. This is fine with me since he is now sleeping 6hrs a night. But instead of napping for long naps, he seems to be catnapping a lot. We'll see how things even out. Hopefully this week.
Well, here are my pictures of the day. 1 day old and 6 weeks. My little boy is growing up!

Daily Photo

Disclaimer: I didn't take this picture myself, personally. However, it did hang in my room for many year. Oh, dreaminess.
So, this morning I was inspired. Yep, in a real important kind of way. When Nathan started fussing, I turned on the tv. This might not seem like inspiration to anyone else, but I usually keep things quiet so he will just fall right back asleep. So, it was almost as if a voice from heaven was saying 'turn on the tv and you won't be sorry.' Well, I was not! Regis and Kelly were on. I do have a slight problem with the show, but find myself watching it occassionaly. Today however, I love them.
Not only was Taylor Hicks (Soul Patrol- WoooOO!) on Dating with the Stars, but NKOTB was on. "It's two in the morning, I wanna come over...." Happiness is. Fully enjoyed my morning. Gave me enough energy to get out of bed and shower. Now that is something.

Daily Photo
I went Visiting Teaching the other day and my friend Chris showed me a scrapbook that she has done that has one picture for each day. Kind of like a photograph journal. I thought it was a fun idea and I always feel like a success when I post a picture with a post, I wanna give it a try.
So here's today's picture.
This morning I got highlights from my friend Jennifer who is an apprentice at a hair salon. I always wanted to be an apprentice, but not for hair. I once tried to convince one of those woodworking guys at the L.A. County Fair to let me come and be an apprentice. It was a no-go.
In the picture Nathan is having one of his few calm moments today since leaving the salon. Since he was a little overstimulated at the salon, he didn't get his morning nap. He also didn't get his afternoon nap and it is now 5pm and he's still not sleeping. So, I've been carrying him around in the Baby Bjorn all afternoon so I could get things done while he catnaps for 10 minutes at a time. If I put him down, he starts to scream. P.S. Someone told me today that he looks exactly like me. Now I know I'm cute, but I still don't see it. He's still a baby to me.

Things I've Been Thinking About
1) I was disappointed with American Idol tonight, but highly entertained by Paula's cry-talking that she seemed to do with everyone. Also, not a fan of the 'family room.'
2) Why is it that I never get real emails anymore? I do however live for messages from my blog or facebook saying that someone has left a comment for me. Hmm...remember when we used to send letters in the mail. Then we got emails and now we get one line on a computer screen. Not that I don't love it, but just got me thinking.
3) Why do I have two dogs? I almost have John convinced to off load one of them. Anyone looking for a beautiful dog?
4) Would it be worth it to cancel cable if I could afford a maid? :) Certainly people are going to be looking for work. I might even be willing to switch my cell phone in for a land line. What would you give up to have a maid?
5) I spend too much time on the computer in the middle of the night. It is amazing that I can sleep through feeding Nathan, but changing his diaper wakes me up and somehow I struggle to fall back asleep. I was up at 5am this morning, email about YW stuff. Sick and wrong!
6)Super excited that to add Nathan to our gym membership, it is $3 extra a month and there is a nursery. Every time I go to the gym, I can put him in the nursery for 2 hours. $3 for a month's worth of babysitting. I might get in great shape! Wahoo.
7)Where is my camera cord, so I can transfer pictures saved on my internal memory to my computer, allowing me to post pictures of the Mystery Mobile that I saw driving on the freeway?

Things that make me laugh
When Nathan is eating and I take the bottle away to burp him, he at first is fine and then he starts heavy breathing and then quickly turns into a squeeling pig. It is the funniest thing. I shouldn't laugh because he's so sad about it, but it is precious.
He has so much hair that he gets bed head! I'll have to get a picture of this. Too cute.
When he is napping and has a sudden arm spasm/flailing moment and wakes himself up. He gets so startled as and then fusses because somehow he things someone else is too blame. Another thing that shouldn't make me laugh. Oh well. I'm easily amused at other's expense.

He's still sleeping
Huzzah!
Last night, Nathan decided to stay awake until 4am this morning. Has anyone actually seen me at 4am? It is a bit like Early Morning Gina. Quick sidenote and story time: When we went down to Texas to visit Laura, we had to go to the airport kind of early to return our rental car and catch our flight. Gina was driving and as we are approaching the parking area, there is a lady in a booth. There was a sign that you had to pay $3. We were kind of in a coma and then Gina says in a really annoyed voice 'If she wants me to pay her $3, I'm going to punch her in the face.' Way to stand up for yourself Gina.
Okay, back to my life. So, no sleep for me. He finally went to sleep after I rocked him for the 800th time and sang to him.
The alarm for John went of at 7:00ish and then I couldn't really go back to sleep. I stayed in bed until my visiting teachers came at 10am, but there was no sleep to be had.
So, at 1:30, Nathan and I layed down for a nap and he's still sleeping! I slept for two hours and then John came home and I made him go out and buy my some food. Now I have the luxury of reading blogs. Wahoo! It's such a treat.
Anyone wanting something to pray for can pray that Nathan begins to show his mom more love by sleeping more at night.

Pretending
I am currently pretending that Nathan is in his crib sleeping. I don't know that this is reality and would be safe to bet that he is not, but since I need a sanity break, I am imagining a quiet and happy baby. It isn't that he is unhappy a lot, but he is a noisy little baby. We call it growling and he is pretty constant at it. Sometimes it's just noise and sometimes it sounds unhappy. I get sucked in to thinking there is a solution, so I spend the two-three hours between feedings, trying to settle him and help him sleep, only to realize that time's up and he needs to be fed again.
Today I am feeling a little on the overwhelmed side. It is 4pm and I have not started my day. I don't know exactly what starting a day looks like anymore because the only real event that stops time is feeding Nathan. Night and day, that's pretty much what I do. Some days I find a way to squeeze something else in, but not usually. I wait until John comes home and then I hand him the baby and the bottle and speed around the house trying to put in a load of laundry, wash the bottles and maybe get dinner cooked. Then we start the bottle, diaper, burping cycle all over again. I'm not trying to complain, but this is my reality and I want fun/clever updates to post, but I've got nothing. I'm exhausted and it's really hard to be clever on no sleep.
There are a few cute updates:
Nathan rolled over for the first time the other day. I know, I know, it's not possible. 5 week old babies don't roll over. But he did. I need to get some invitations out for our YW New Beginning night next week, so I put him down on a blanket on the floor. He was on his belly. When I turned back around after get a zip code off the computer, he was on his back and off the blanket. I just stared at him for a minute in disbelief. So, there's that.
AND, he is smiling for real now. If he is happy and fed, and you start talking to him and smiling, he'll smile back. Yep, it melts my heart. One of these days I'll get a little video of it. He is so alert and curious.
Um, let's see. Oh and I've taken another 1,000 pictures. Most of them end up blurry and less than fabulous, but here's my new favorite.

Happy, Happy Birthday or something like that
So, yesterday was a very special day here at the family farm. Nathan is 1 month old. We had cake and ice cream and wore party hats all day. Well, scratch all of that except the ice cream. I eat ice cream everyday. I just celebrate everyday of being alive. It's really a good way to go. Parties everyday.
Happy news: we were out of our favorite ice cream and John reminded me to pick some up while I was out. So, I did. Well, apparently he thought that I might not remember. Who's gonna forget the ice cream? Not me. So, he got some too. So now, we have two 1/2 gallons of ice cream. Joy to the World.
Well, back to Nathan. He is now one month old and getting cuter and chubbier by the minute. Adorable and oh, so kissable. Rest assured that every time you tell me to give him a kiss for you, I actually stop what I'm doing and kiss him and tell him "That was from Aunt Rachel" or whoever the kiss came from. He is definitely feeling the love. If you haven't sent him a kiss yet, get on the ball cause it's good fun.
So, I thought you would want a complete update on little Nate's progress in the last month of his life.
Accomplishments:
Sneezes
Hiccups
Sleeps
Pukes
Growls
Makes every little cute baby noise
Smiles
Pulls his head over when I'm burping him, so he can look at me (melt my heart)
Stops making noise when I sing to him or read to him
Skills on the docket for upcoming months
smiling for real
Changing his own diaper
Learning to interact with the camera
So, you can see that his current talents far outweigh his needed skills, so I'm just announcing now that my child needs to be placed in GATE classes. He is obviously so advanced.
Here are some new pictures for your viewing pleasure. I know that most of the pictures all look the same except that he's wearing different outfits, but I trust that if you are reading my blog, you will humor this mother and ooh and aah appropriately.

Don't you love his fuzzy hair? I call him my little munchichi after he's had his bath and his hair does this.
