Just in case any of you is planning on becoming pregnant now or in the near future, I feel it my duty to make you aware of some very serious limitations of pregnancy. Read and enjoy!
Things You SHOULD Do• You Should Get Regular Medical Exams
• You Should Get the RDA (Reccomended Daily Allowance) for Folic Acid
• You Should Check Your Immunity to German Measles (Rubella)
• You Should Take Prenatal Vitamins
• You Should Eat Plenty of Protein
• You Should Eat Well and Get Plenty of Exercise. Can't be bothered and Nathan seems fine
• You Should Be Sure to Get Enough Fat in Your Diet
Fat and cholesteral, which you normally try to avoid, are important for absorbing the fat soluable vitamins (A,D,E, and K) and for strechable skin. There are so many fat-free foods on the market today (fat free milk, butter, ice cream, meat, bread, cookies etc.), it is very easy to consume a fat-free diet without realizing it. Really? Is it that easy? Without even realizing it? Hmm...sounds a little fishy to me.
• You Should Do Kegal Exercises
• You Should Use House Plants
• You Should Focus on Your Child and Avoid Negative Thoughts and Actions This is why I have stopped hanging around annoying people.
• You Should Take Care When Traveling
• You Should Talk to Your Doctor about Existing Conditions and Your Family History
Things You Should NOT Do
• You Should Not Smoke or be Around People Who Do
• You Should Not Drink Alcohol
• You Should Not Take Illegal Drugs
• You Should Not Take Presecription Drugs or Over the Counter (OTC) drugs, Including Aspirin, Unless Told to Do So by Your Doctor
• You Should Avoid Hot Dogs
• You Should Avoid Caffeine
• You Should Avoid Contact with Reptiles
• You Should Avoid Tick Bites Whereas unpregnant ladies, go get 'em!
• You Should Avoid Fish
• You Should Not Eat Junk Food Wait a minute. I thought I was supposed to get enough fat? I can't do both, so anyone for a bowl of ice cream?
• You Should Avoid Vitamin A Supplements
• You Should Avoid X-Rays
• You Should Avoid VDTs Video screens, just like the computer screen I was staring at while writing this. Run away!!
• You Should Avoid Microwaves Um, just plain no on this one. I will avoid sticking my head in the microwave while it's on though. How about that? I think that is what they really mean anyway.
• You Should not Use an Electric Blanket
• You Should Not Use a Water Bed Most especially because after 4 months, you would be there for the duration of your pregnancy. I wonder if there is a youtube video of a 9 month pregnant woman trying to get out of a water bed. I think I might pay money to see that.
• You Should Avoid Drinking Tap Water if Possible
• You Should Avoid Stress Quitting your job helps on this one.
• You Should Not Expose Yourself to Pesticides
• You Should Avoid Fumes from Paint, Paint Thinner, Household Cleaning Products and so on
• You Should Avoid Raising Your Body Temperature
There is a potential danger to the developing fetus if your body temperature rises above 102 degrees. You can raise your body temperature to this level by getting a fever, by exercising too strenuously, working outside on hot summer days, and so on. While I can't control whether or not I get a fever, I take the council to not exercise too strenuously, very seriously. Before, during and after pregnancy.
• You Should Not Use a Sauna, Hot Tub or Take Long Hot Baths This is the sadness of my life right now.
• You Should Avoid Cleaning Cat Litter Boxes. You Should Avoid Uncooked Meat.
• You Should Avoid Herpes Now, do they really need to say this one? Is there any moron out there that doesn't avoid herpes? I think this is just one of those common sense rule of thumb things. Everyone avoid herpes!
Well, hopefully you've all been informed and feel a little smarter for having read this.

I feel super smart now. Especially now that I know to avoid herpes. Totally dodged that bullet. Thanks.
I just laughed out loud about the herpes and the tick bites! I had to tell my male co-worker what I was laughing about!
Ummm...hot dogs? I've not heard that one before. Is it because it's leftover parts, or is it some sort of salmonella thing?
I found the answer about the hot dog thing.
"Deli meats, luncheon meats (cold cuts), and hot dogs are strictly verboten, because they contain the common bacterium listeria monocytogenes. Unlike many other bacteria, listeria can survive and propogate in refrigerated foods. Most people ingest listeria without suffering serious problems, but those with compromised or weak immune systems--such as the very young or the very elderly, and pregnant women--can become gravely ill from it. In the worst cases, listeria can cause miscarriage and death."
So deli meats even? So you can't have a turkey sandwich?
Amanda I could totally picture you reading this out loud and hearing all your fun comments, and I could picture Rachel saying her comment about the herpes and dodging the bullet. Oh boy how I miss you all. I think once Nathan is up for traveling we need to plan a Chocolat Orange night.
Wow, avoid herpes? I'm on board with that one, but frankly I think a lot of those "rules" are a little overboard. It seems to me that someone was enlisted to compose a comprehensive list pregnancy rules, with a threat attached that if anything that could possibly endanger a pregnancy was left off the list, said composer would be sued for all he was worth, and possibly hanged. I think in general if people are smart they are really going to be ok. I ate hot dogs, and I took a whole heap of a lot more Tylenol than my Dr. said was advisable, and my baby is perfect. Though I guess if something goes awry with his health in the future I could always attribute it to hot dogs during pregnancy.
