Most of you know that winter and I are not on the best of terms. Especially when winter thinks it owns any month after March. I am a bit of a whiner when it comes to snow/sleet/hail in April. Who am I kidding, I complain most of the winter. I've long thought that I should just eat tons and tons of Halloween candy and then just wake up in time for Cadbury Mini-Eggs. This year however, I should have kept on sleeping past Easter. While I had a really great Easter, the last two days have been less than stellar.
Yesterday's playgroup was at a bouncyhouse in a town close to mine. While playing with another friend's daughter, Nathan slammed into her and both ended up getting with some serious head bonking. Nathan's incident left him gasping for breath while doing his whole open mouth, no noise scream. I picked him up and he finally caught his breath enough to cry. That didn't last long as he went limp in my arms and his eyes rolled back in his head. I have to say that I have never been so scared in my life. Luckily, he came to pretty quickly. While he was out, I had someone call 911 and the sheriff and EMT's got there pretty quick. They assessed him and said he looked pretty good but I should take him in and get him checked. So, we packed up quick and headed of to the ER. I have learned that when I am really upset, I should not try to drive myself anywhere. I got completely lost and had no GPS reception on my phone. I felt completely helpless as I knew I was going in the wrong direction, but couldn't really figure out the right way to go. Finally, I said a prayer and almost immediately my phone got enough connection to give me a map of where I was and I got myself turned around.
At the ER, the Dr. said that he looked good and that since it had been an hour since the incident he didn't see any point in doing a CAT scan. Nathan was talking and acting normal by that time. So we got a few dinosaur stickers and headed home. It was a horrible experience, but luckily I was able to reach John and he drove home to be with us.
I should have known to just stay put and lay low for a few days, but I needed to run some errands today. We went to the mall play area, where an older kid kicked Nathan off one of the toys and he bumped his head again. I wasn't too happy, so we left. I put Nathan in the truck and headed home. After driving for a bit, I looked back and Nathan was being super cute putting his head on the head rest of the front seat saying 'I can see you Mommy.' I turned back around smiling at his cuteness only to realize that he shouldn't be able to lean forward that far. Sure enough, I had forgotten to strap him in. So, I pull over immediately to remedy the situation. I left the truck running and got out. I went around to his side only to realize that his door was locked. AND EVERY OTHER DOOR!!! I had locked Nathan, my phone and keys inside the truck while it was running.
I chased down some guy and made him give me his cell phone. Luckily, John was working from home today and he was able to come and save the day.
So, in case anyone is wondering, next year I will follow a very carefully planned out hibernation. Halloween until Mother's Day. I think I'll be safe then. Night, night.

I'm so happy to see a post from you! Sorry it's been a rough couple of days and a long winter. I'm glad things turned out ok and that everyone is well. All of my sisters at some point have forgotten to buckle their kids in, and the sad thing is it happened when I was with them.
Hopefully you'll be getting some nice spring weather your way soon. I'll send warm vibes your way. We've got enough to spare here in AZ, we've been in the 90's for the past few weeks and I'm already sick of it. But I need to enjoy it because it will only get worse!
Take care, love ya! :)
What a horrible few days! I think Mother's Day is a good idea for your hibernation wake-up. But I'm going to advise you to hire someone to buy you Cadbury Mini-Eggs so you won't miss them. That would be the worst.
Rachel, You are hired to buy my mini-eggs for me. And you will have to put them in a safety deposit box so you don't get tempted to dip into them. Agreed?
I love Schozbot!! I can NOT believe your days this week... ARGH!!!! I am so sorry... I am so glad everything turned out okay. I am not going to lie... when I first heard the car story I pictured little Nathan behind the wheel with a big grin on his face cruising down the road... Mommy, look at meeeeee!
Love you and think you are a FABULOUS mother!
Oh man--I was so excited to see a post form you, but as I was reading it I felt bad--I would have gone a few more days without a post from you, just so you didn't have to have days like those! What a crazy few days, but I'm glad everything worked out.
Yeah for a new post! However, so sad about your last few days. Glad Nathan is alright. Glad you are ok too. Miss you!
OH my goodness! I can't imagine how stressful that was. Definitely time for lots and lots and lots of chocolate. I heard it has no calories when you're really stressed!!
There is no fear like the fear of a mother when she thinks her child is in danger of any kind. It is really amazing how your entire body reacts to it - and I can totally sympathize with the not-being-able-to-think- clearly part of it.
The only bad thing about hibernating would be missing out on all those days of seeing your adorable little boy growing up before your eyes! If it weren't for that, I'd buy enough Cadbury Mini-Eggs for all of us and join you in dreamland!
Oh dear.
Oh dear, oh dear.
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
I'll buy you some mini eggs so you can sleep through Easter. Give our love to little Nathan.
(I've forgotten to strap my kids in now and then too. Not my brightest moments.)
Love you!
I love this post. Although, I don't love the passing out stuff that has been going on. I never heard the car story while I was out of town last week. I'm still laughing as we speak. I can totally envision a "freaking out" Amanda waving some stranger down on the high way. Love you!
